PRACTICAL LEARNING Automotive Lab A COLLABORATION WITH PENN STATE UNIVERSITY AND THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY DRIVING INNOVATION WITH BMW Our students have the incredible opportunity of working with a brand new BMW X3 to develop a solution that prevents hot car deaths. A CO2 sensor, a built in camera and the car’s internal thermometer will be used to detect life and whether the car’s temperature is too high. The vehicle owner will receive notification of these factors and be able to take remote action to reduce the car’s temperature via their mobile. INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION Mobile health A COLLABORATION WITH PENN STATE UNIVERSITY an AWARD WINNING IDEA Our students won the 2016 RESNA Student Design Competition for designing a device thatallows individuals with motor neurone disease, whouse Augmented Alternative Communication (AAC), to express their emotions.
LEARNING FACTORIES Aviation HangerMULTI-DISCIPLINARY PROJECTS IMPROVING SAFETY FOR single-pilot flights Our students worked on a real plane to develop the following safety protocol software: •An altitude sensor system to safely lower planes in autopilot mode. •Iris motion detection to determine when a pilot has lost consciousness. •Object detection software to reduce accidents during landings. Mars rover Project SIMULATING A RESOURCE RECOVERY MISSION ON MARS OUT OF THIS WORLD INNOVATION Our students collaborated with interna- tional students to design a safe system that allows the remote control of a Mars Rover.
