LALARRKKHHAALLLL AACCAADDEEMMYY Newsletter - Issue 83 - 1 May 2020In line with advice received from both the Scottish and national governments, all South Lan-arkshire schools and nurseries closed to pupils on Friday 20 March.Due to the challenging and uncertain times that we are experiencing, SQA also stated at thistime that the 2020 Exam Diet for S4-S6 learners could now not go ahead. They have recentlyannounced an alternative certification model which will be used this year in order that all ourlearners get the qualifications which they deserve. All teachers at Larkhall Academy are working hard to provide continued education to ourlearners in all year groups. Classwork and activities can be accessed daily by all students byusing their Google Classroom. Children of keyworkers are being accommodated every daywithin the local Hub facilities which are being staffed by teachers from across the authority. Itis important that our students continue their education during this period but it is equally im-portant that we all stay safe and well.Newsletter 1

Headteacher’s MessageDear Parents, Carers and Families,This is perhaps the most unusual newsletter we will eversend out, given the current circumstances. With all schoolsclosed and no indication of when we are likely to return, con-tinuing to provide education is proving to be one of the greatchallenges for this generation of teachers and pupils. The odd snow day, when school is cancelled, can sometimes provide a bit of funand joy, but this extended period of absence is a completely different scenarioand I know that most young people (and families) are keen to get back to a senseof “normality” as soon as possible. The priority for everyone at this time is to ensure wellbeing. Eating healthily, exer-cising regularly, maintaining a daily routine and keeping in contact with each otherprovides a strong basis for our wellbeing.Trying to do all of this is, of course, much harder than it sounds. It is importantthat our school staff are able to provide support and advice where necessary. Iknow that our Pupil Support staff have been in touch with many families and I amgrateful for their input. Please get in contact if there is anything we can help with. Our Twitter account and website have lots of information on wellbeing and sup-porting and understanding young people. Our learning is best when our wellbeingis good so please continue to focus on wellbeing. Our staff have been working hard to get materials online for all pupils. It’s not aneasy task to provide resources for around 1100 young people who are not in thebuilding! Thank you for your patience and feedback which is helping us to makethings better day by day. Finally, our school values of kindness, togetherness and resilience will help us allto focus on what is important. I’m hopeful it won’t be too long before we are all re-connected and back in our school building. My best wishes to you all.Andrew L SmithHeadteacherNewsletter 2
