BEST OF THE FEWHIDDEN TREASURE AT THE DEALERSHIP By Edward Hannigan Some people are sort of lucky, some aren’t lucky at all. But some people have incredible luck. This is one of those incredible luck stories. Imagine seeing what was advertised as a two year old GT at the Ford deal- ership. Good price at $18,500, with only 32,000 miles. A deal is struck and away you go with your Ford Mustang GT – just like Jeremy DeSpain and his father Glen DeSpain did. A subsequent run of the VIN thru Saleen shows that in fact, it’s a Saleen. A 2002 S281 Supercharged Saleen, car #691. A highly optioned Saleen. The window sticker read $54,000 new so that would make it a bit more than a GT. As you can see, it’s one clean Saleen - never wrecked and with a clean title. I bet someone at that dealership had VIN running taken out of their work- load that week. We at Powerrr hope that Jeremy’s family buys lottery tick- ets on a regular basis. Just saying... Official Magazine of the Saleen Club of America 3

Of the Month 2014 S302 #13 David Legrand first bought a 2007 Mustang GT with a V8 and a five speed. “...In 2013, I was lucky to be able to buy a 2007 white Saleen SC281 # 933 ...it was beautiful and I very much regret having sold it. Then in 2018 my father, Jean Marie, gave me money to be able to buy a new Saleen.” He bought his 2014 #13 car from Del Rigo in Los Angeles, and had it airlifted home to France, with some trains and boats throwin in for good measure along the two month journey. “Ernie Design prepared the Airlift air suspension, Carbon part, Braun seats, and Ferrero rims. I am a very lucky owner to have the only Saleen in France and maybe in Europe with an identical finish.” said David, and he’s clearly in love with the car. We have tracked down some other European owners and will bring them to you as we can. David’s already looking for a 30th anniversary or a way to get an S1…6 Powerrr Magazine | May 2020

So you’ve got a bit more time to put on one more coat of wax… will probably be the most expensive goal to accomplish. I will need quality shocks and coil overs along with a steer- ing angle kit. Surprisingly, I think the clutch install and transmission rebuild will be less expensive but much harder work to accomplish on the dirt driveway without a lift. The final major goal will be to paint the Saleen. The paint has a lot of sun damage and dings that it acquired over the years. Overall, I can only hope to do all of the work myself. I think it will be an excellent learning experience. Mastering my driving skills will take time and a lot of tires. But, I am looking forward to driving to neighboring states looking for challenging tracks as well as meeting awesome people along the way. Primary goal for first drift event: Passing tech inspection.14 Powerrr Magazine | May 2020
